She Said – Well its been a while since we wrote – we have discovered being on the road go go go styles makes it tough to find time to write and to find the internet. I am going to start from Chilliwack as Mike is with me and we are both going to tell our rendition of each place we have been since. We are currently on the Ferry from Port Hardy on the northern tip of Vancouver Island up to Prince Rupert. It is Thursday August 6th and Chilliwack was exactly 2 weeks ago. We went there to visit my dad and got to take in some of the activities Chilliwack has to offer. First Blueberry Picking at the old Columbia Valley Winery – now called Constantin and Something else – some Romanian folk. For $0.80 a pound we picked about 26 pounds of blueberries in less than an hour! What a deal… even better a deal is fresh baked blueberry pie. Mike and I took them home and with dad’s recipe made the most delicious blueberry pie one could imagine. I am now adding pie into my baking items! We also got a chance to visit Cultus Lake and go for a nice walk around and a swim. Of all the places we had been Cultus had the warmest water and I much prefer WARM water. We had some drinks and nachos (with super amounts of cheese) at this great patio at the start of the lake. I wish I could remember the name but dad paid…. So I don’t have the receipt - but it was across from the water park and if anyone goes order the nachos – it’s a meal in itself!!!
He Said – Ahh Chilliwack, when the wind is just right, the smell of manure lingers in the air, love it. Reminds me of the days of helping out on Deebo’s pig farm. So – oh ah, ummm, we got to Tony’s place and the first thing we did was have Chilliwack corn. Nothing beats Chilliwack corn. Tony wanted to get down and dirty and he was itching to be pickin, picking what you say? Picking Blueberries. So we drove up to the creepy Romanian’s place and wow there was a lot of blueberries to pick. Out came the buckets and away we went. This was my first time picking blueberries and it was actually pretty easy. They come off quite well. An hour and a half later we were at the scales – 26 pounds of blueberries – we’re not here to mess around, we are blueberry pickers, it just came natural. Tony got us a deal. All he said was “your mom said if I had over 20 lbs, I would get them for $0.80 a pound.” The next day we hit Cultus Lake for a walk down the beaches. Dense forest and beautiful little cottages hug the lake’s surface. I started to sweat pretty good, so we found a good pier to jump off and went for a dip, a little dip in Cultus Lake. Next time we go back I definitely want to check out their big ass water park and across the street is a big ass mini golf place – looks like fun for all ages. Finished off the day with some local beer (Old Yale Brewing Company), and baked ourselves a pie, fresh blueberry pie, mmm mmm put some ice cream on it and get down, tastes so good right in my belly, when my belly is happy, so am I.
