Squamish - White Water Rafting and Enlightened Warrior Training Camp with Peak Potentials

She Said – Mike had never been rafting so we headed down to Squamish so we could raft on Sunday July 26th. I do believe it was Whistler Rafting Compay we went with. Saturday night we tried to find a campground in an INSANE hail and rain storm that turned the skies from beautiful to black in a matter of moments. As we searched (because most stuff was all booked up) we came across this bridge over the Cheakamus River. There was this crazy mist hovering over and strange sounds upstream. We pulled over and got out and stood on the bank watching the waters disappear….then suddenly a loud noise echoed out and a rush of water and trees came running down the river. The entire river was trees. They had damed up the river not too far up and then broke through. It was an amazing site to see. Then they were gone and the river damed up again (and is still damed up!). We found a campsite and curled up in our tent out of the rain. Waking up Sunday morning we met up with our rafting group on a nice yellow school bus. Because of the weather part of our river was closed so sadly our rafting trip was cut short. Kudos to the group for a kick ass salmon lunch, however the rafting in my opinion was not nearly as good as the Kicking Horse or Chilliwack River….

That night we started Warrior Camp with Peak Potentials in Squamish at Glacier Valley. Warrior Camp was 4 and a half days of intenseness. It was an amazing experience and that is all I can say really because it is something to be experienced, not talked about. All I can say is there are 2 things I have always wanted to do and we got to do them and they were UNREAL (that’s good). There were also things I didn’t even dream of that we did. If I can do it, you can do it – so do me a favour – if you are interested in personal development, finding your inner strength attend Warrior Camp, it will kick your ass and you will come out a much more loving, amazing, strong person! And for those that know me and know I used to care a lot about what people thought of me….not so much anymore…. Which is great because it makes doing what I want a lot easier!!! Which means I am going to get my ass out there a LOT more!

He Said – The rafting was to start down by Squamish. So we decided to head that way to camp for the night and meet the bus by the side of the road Sunday morning. As it turned out, it was a lot harder to find camping than we thought it would be. I figured we should have found camping right away, but Andrea wanted to keep driving around and around, then came the rain. It was pissing more than a doubled cunted cow on a flat rock. It was coming down. As Andrea would say, it was torrential. Then the hail came, bejesus, it was coming down. So we took refuge under a tree in the car for a little bit. Once it eased up we decided to continue on our journey to find a place to set up camp. With desperation kicking in we were looking for any place to pull in and park and see if we could set up. We pulled in to this flat spot in front of some houses next to the Cheakamus. A few people were on the bridge taking pictures of the river because it had gone chocolatey brown from the silt or mud, or whatever makes it do that. We stood by the river for a bit, just watching it, chatting from a guy from a different white water rafting company. He said he had never seen the water do this before. We started to hear a loud noise like a train in the distance. And it was starting to get louder and louder and this creepy mist started to rise from the river to the point where you couldn’t see down the valley. Peering down I thought I saw somebody in the water, like some extreme junckie who wanted to get a hard ride on the river. Then I yelled at the others, “Guys, the whole forest is coming down the river.” And that’s exactly what happened. The whole river filled with trees to the point where I could have been a logger like that old commercial on TV “It goes rolling, rolling down white waters…” You know that little animated dity “That’s where the log jammer….” Anyways – so we watched half the forest float by us, by this time more kayaker/rafter guys showed up – they were getting all excited hoping for some new surf wave to form. They gave us tips on where to find a camp sight for the night. So we headed that way and got lucky and found one.

The next morning we met our bus to take us to rafting. They were a pretty funny lot and there was a mixed crowd of ages and areas on the bus. We picked up our wet suits, our paddles, helmets, life jackets etc. and they split us into our rafting groups. We pushed off into the water! This was my first time rafting, Andrea, she’s pretty much a natural, she over achieves at everything. Our river guide was Argentinean named Julian – he gave us this high five chant ---- rrrrrrrock and rrrrrolll Nina – and had some funny jokes. When we were in the rapids, super fun, and the lunch was scrumptious, to die for. All in all a pretty good time. They even let us jump in the water and float beside the boat in some smaller rapids, that was fun. The water was so cold it made me almost switch sexes – when I got out I thought I wasn’t a boy anymore. It was a great way to see the pretty landscape and all the waterfalls and glaciers.

Then we headed to Enlightened Warrior Training Camp where we spent our next four and a half days.
